Terms of Service

Plain language. No surprises. Here's how Voluntier works and what we ask of you.

Last updated: May 20, 2026

✦ Before you read the legal stuff

Voluntier exists to connect volunteers with nonprofits. That's it. We're not here to bury you in fine print or trap you into anything unexpected.

These terms are standard protections for both you and us. The parts that actually affect your day-to-day experience as a volunteer are in Section 4. For organizations, see Section 5. Everything else is background legal structure that we're required to include.

If you ever have a question about anything here, email us at support@voluntier.us and we'll give you a straight answer.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Voluntier platform at voluntier.us (the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. These Terms apply to all users, including volunteers, nonprofit organizations, and visitors.

If you are using Voluntier on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the legal authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Platform.

2. Description of Service

Voluntier is a technology platform operated by Voluntier LLC that connects volunteers with nonprofit and community organizations. Our services include:

Voluntier is a technology platform only. We do not employ volunteers, operate nonprofit programs, conduct background checks on users or organizations, or guarantee the quality, safety, accuracy, or legality of any volunteer opportunity listed on the Platform.

3. User Accounts

Registration

To access most features of Voluntier, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information up to date.

Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years of age to create a Voluntier account. Voluntier does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, do not create an account or submit any information to the Platform. If we discover that a user is under 13, we will delete their account and associated data immediately.

Users between the ages of 13 and 17 represent that they have obtained parental or guardian consent to use the Platform. Parents or guardians who believe their minor child has created an account without consent should contact us at support@voluntier.us.

Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at support@voluntier.us if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. Voluntier is not liable for any loss or damage arising from unauthorized use of your account.

Account Types

Voluntier offers Volunteer accounts for individuals and Organization accounts for nonprofits and community groups. Each account type has specific capabilities and responsibilities described in Sections 4 and 5 below.

4. Volunteer Users

As a volunteer, you agree to:

Volunteer Hours & Credentials

Hours logged through Voluntier's verified check-in system are intended to reflect actual volunteer activity. Voluntier-verified hours may be included in your skill resume and downloaded for use in college applications, scholarship submissions, employment records, or other purposes. However, Voluntier does not guarantee that any third party will accept or recognize these records. Acceptance is at the sole discretion of the receiving institution or employer.

Falsifying check-ins or misrepresenting volunteer hours is a serious violation of these Terms and may result in immediate account termination and removal of all associated records.

5. Organization Users

As an organization, you represent and warrant that:

Event Listings & Changes

Organizations are solely responsible for the accuracy of event listings, including dates, times, locations, and descriptions. If an event is cancelled, rescheduled, or materially changed after volunteers have registered, you agree to notify all registered volunteers promptly through the Platform or directly via email. Failure to provide timely notice of cancellations or significant changes is a violation of these Terms.

Grant Reports

Grant reports generated through Voluntier are based on data collected through our Platform and are provided as a convenience tool. These reports are not audited financial statements and should not be represented as such to any funding body. Organizations are solely responsible for verifying the accuracy of all data before submitting reports to any external party. Voluntier does not guarantee the acceptance or sufficiency of any grant report by any funding agency, foundation, or government body.

Volunteer Data

Organizations may access volunteer names, email addresses, and hours through the Platform solely for the purpose of managing volunteer programs and generating grant reports. You may not sell, share, rent, or use volunteer contact information for any purpose unrelated to the volunteer activities conducted through the Platform. Any unauthorized use of volunteer data is a material breach of these Terms and may result in immediate account termination.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Voluntier to:

Voluntier reserves the right to investigate violations, remove content, and suspend or terminate any account that violates these standards, at our sole discretion and without advance notice.

7. Intellectual Property

Voluntier's Property

The Voluntier platform, including its software, design, branding, logos, trademarks, text, graphics, and all other content created by Voluntier, is owned by Voluntier LLC and protected by United States and international intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any Voluntier-owned content without our express written permission.

Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you submit to the Platform, including profile information, event descriptions, and photos ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant Voluntier a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Platform and promoting Voluntier's mission.

You represent that you own or have the rights to submit any User Content, and that it does not infringe any third-party intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.

8. User Content Standards

All content submitted to the Platform must be accurate, lawful, and respectful. You may not submit content that:

Voluntier may remove any User Content that violates these standards, without notice or liability.

9. Volunteer Hours & Verification

Voluntier's QR-based check-in system is designed to verify volunteer attendance at events. Hours are credited based on the scheduled duration of the event at the time of check-in. Voluntier does not currently verify whether a volunteer remained for the full duration of an event.

While we strive for accuracy in hour tracking, Voluntier makes no guarantee that logged hours will be accepted by any employer, educational institution, scholarship program, government agency, or other third party. Use of Voluntier-verified records is at the sole discretion of the receiving party.

10. Safety Disclaimer

Important: Voluntier does not conduct background checks on organizations or volunteers, does not verify the safety of any event or location, and is not present at any volunteer activity. By using this Platform, you acknowledge and accept these limitations.

Voluntier is a technology platform that facilitates connections between volunteers and organizations. We are not responsible for, and expressly disclaim all liability for:

Before attending any volunteer event, we encourage you to:

You participate in all volunteer activities at your own risk. Organizations are independently responsible for maintaining safe conditions at their events and for complying with all applicable health, safety, and labor laws.

11. Privacy

Your use of Voluntier is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Platform, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.

In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, Voluntier will notify affected users without unreasonable delay and in accordance with applicable Pennsylvania and federal law.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE VOLUNTIER PLATFORM IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VOLUNTIER LLC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

VOLUNTIER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. VOLUNTIER DOES NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY CONTENT ON THE PLATFORM, INCLUDING USER-GENERATED CONTENT AND GRANT REPORTS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VOLUNTIER LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND SUCCESSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

IN NO EVENT SHALL VOLUNTIER'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100) OR (B) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID TO VOLUNTIER IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Voluntier LLC and its officers, directors, employees, agents, successors, and assigns from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to:

Voluntier reserves the right to assume exclusive control of any matter subject to indemnification, at your expense. You agree to cooperate with our defense of such claims.

15. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

Informal Resolution First

Before initiating any formal dispute, you agree to contact Voluntier at support@voluntier.us and describe the nature of the dispute in good faith. We will attempt to resolve the matter informally within 30 days of receiving your notice. Most concerns can be resolved this way, and we are committed to responding promptly and fairly.

Binding Arbitration

If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Platform — including questions of arbitrability — shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court.

The arbitration will be conducted in Pennsylvania (or remotely if agreed), and the arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Class Action Waiver

YOU AND VOLUNTIER AGREE THAT EACH PARTY MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION.

Exceptions

Either party may seek emergency injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent irreparable harm pending arbitration. Claims arising under Voluntier's intellectual property rights are not subject to mandatory arbitration.

Small Claims

Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court in lieu of arbitration, provided the claim qualifies under that court's rules.

16. Termination

Voluntier may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms, is harmful to other users or third parties, or is otherwise detrimental to the Platform or Voluntier's mission.

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at support@voluntier.us. Upon account deletion, your personal data will be removed within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements. Volunteer hour records associated with your account will also be deleted — we encourage you to download any records you need before requesting deletion.

Sections 7 (Intellectual Property), 10 (Safety Disclaimer), 12 (Disclaimer of Warranties), 13 (Limitation of Liability), 14 (Indemnification), 15 (Dispute Resolution), and 18 (Governing Law) survive termination of these Terms.

17. Changes to Terms

Voluntier reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and by sending an email notification to registered users where appropriate. Minor changes (such as clarifications that do not affect user rights) may be made without notice.

Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Platform and may delete your account.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. To the extent that court proceedings are permitted under these Terms, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Pennsylvania.
